Materials Used

Materials we work with

CNC or Computer Numerical Control is a traditional and versatile manufacturing process. This is used for high precision, medium to high volume production of complex parts. Materials used can be as versatile as the machine itself. CNC machining can be done with materials like steel, aluminium, copper, copper alloy to plastics and fiberglass as well.

CNC machining is a subtractive process where the machine chips or whittles away at a solid part to create the finished product. Based on the project at hand Electroflex Engineering can suggest materials to be used for the project. Our in-house team considers multiple things before finalizing on the material to be used.

Important aspects to take into account are:

  • The place where the part is being used.
  • The weight requirement of the part.
  • Does the part need to be heat or water resistant.
  • The project budget.

Electroflex Engineering works with these four materials predominantly

  • EN Series Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Stainless Steel
  • Copper and Copper Alloy

EN Series Steel

EN series steel means European standard or Euronorm. This steel and its series are used for manufacturing bolts, studs, nuts etc. Depending on the series, the steel could be used for various purposes. Usually, the hardness of the steel and different sensitivities to heat impact the machinability of the material.

Aluminium

These are easy to machine and are a preferred choice when the volumes are huge. It has high thermal and electrical conductivity and also good strength to weight ratio. Their natural resistance to corrosion makes them an ideal choice for most businesses.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is another popular material that is used in CNC extensively. It is a preferred material for nuts, bolts, non-marine grade fittings, shafts and gears. There are multiple stainless steel alloys that are preferred by various industries, Electroflex Engineering has the capability to handle requirements related to all kinds of stainless steel CNC machining.

Copper and Copper Alloy

Pure copper has poor machinability due to its plasticity and toughness. It is a common practice to use copper alloys. Alloying copper with elements like zinc, tin, aluminium, silicon, etc. can drastically improve the machinability of the material. Copper alloys are a preferred material for CNC machining because of its high corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and ductility properties.

At Electroflex Engineering, we can help the customer choose the right material and cater to high-volume requirements with on-time delivery. We work with a variety of materials other than those mentioned above. Connect with us to know more.
