Tear down and benchmarking
A product teardown is a process of disassembling the product for the purpose of identifying its component parts, chip and system functionality, mechanical processes etc. This is a kind of reverse engineering, done to understand the strategy of design, material, manufacturing etc.
Teardown and bechmarking activities are undertaken for two major reasons:
- Generate engineering insights for new product or platform and understand the design and development of the product.
- It can unravel cost-saving ideas in production run vehicles, thereby improving profits.
At Electroflex Engineering, we plan and execute the teardown benchmarking project in a highly customized manner. The activity is undertaken to achieve a specific target and hence detailed data collection related to that purpose is important.
Teardown and Benchmarking Process at Electroflex Engineering
The process at Electroflex Engineering is very detailed and precise. We focus on three main aspects, listed below in the process.
Imaging
In this step detailed photography is conducted. Pictures of vehicle interior, exterior, underbody, engine compartment, boot, infotainment and entertainment system, suspension, special features etc. are documented in image format.
Weight Analysis
In this step, the vehicle weight is measured and analysed under various circumstances. The various circumstances can be, but not limited to:
- Weight under normal conditions with no added content or passengers
- Weight with luggage and passengers
- Front and rear axle weight difference from both the above weights.
Teardown
A detailed analysis is undertaken to identify tools required for teardown. Tourque measurements, consumable extraction are next in the process of teardown. Once the teardown begins, every component is removed, measured and details about the component are logged.
Once the teardown is complete we deliver detailed information like vehicle specifications, related photographs, technical data compiled during the process of teardown, weight details, dismantled history photos etc.
